THE BEST GAME OF F1 and game with races
- The nuances of this game capture the feel of a formula 1 race quite well for what actually is a fairly simple game; Individualization through your car, driver, and strategy makes you feel different enough to matter.
- Some of the rules can be tricky to grasp, even after playing the game through a couple times.
Racing simulation game with a lot of modules where each players controls one car and advance it by playing a card each turn.
What makes it special?
- Hand management with multi-used cards to manage car advancement and damage
Pros:
- Artwork
- Components (low detailed colored plastic cars, double sided board for 2 tracks for short and long race)
- Hand management with multi-used cards: numbers for car advancement, colors for bonus advancement in curves, different damage symbols
- Damage management: there are different types of damage, each player can take different amount of damage, played card causes different amount of damage(s), check value used for passing events (push your luck)
- Catch-up mechanism due to check values
- Players select a special ability/strategy that allow special maneuvers (play-style)
- A lot of modules to enrich the simulation (e.g., weather, pacety car, flags, events, pit, customization of cars, skills for drivers) but adds even more rules
- The designer published a reference rule sheet (1 page for basic game or 2 pages for advanced game)
- Scales well with all player counts
- Simple dummy cars that fill the track and just move 3 or 2 spots
Neutrals:
Language dependent: text on player boards, special ability tiles
Cons:
- A lot of small rules and exceptions (due to simulation). Streamlined second edition will be released in 2019.
Similar games:
- K2 (race game with hand management)
- Formular D (managing damage, dice roll, push your luck, not that complex)
- DownForce (hand management, auction for cars, betting, players can move any car even of other players, very streamlined)
Interesting mix of options, even in the basic game. The robots are well handled and provide the right level of interference.
Very impressive game, an unique design that really got my attention. Using cards for making the movement doesn't put you feel exactly in the vision of the pilot, but puts you in charge of the management of the race in a macrovision. It is not a very easy to learn game and sure have a lot of strategies to struggle with the strong robots and against other fast players.
The robots are a great addiction, they simply simulate the laggers in the same way they put another level of difficulty in a game that you must beat the other players AND the AI of the game.
For those who like the macro aspect of the race with a lot of flags, safety car, weather, pit stop windows and of course the race, it is a cool game for you. If you like card combinations to make your tatics and collect cards and hold to make powerful combinations, it is a game for you.
The cards put you into another level of control of the race that dices usualy doesn't do, so this game sure have the luck aspect of other card games that you have to buy cards, but in the same way, put you in a better control of the situation than dices.
Amazing. Better than any other Formula 1 boardgame I have ever played, and they are many. This can be the ultimate design. Deep but flowing smoothly like a real GP and all aspects are in there. Great the BOTs cars idea.
Muy buen juego. Tiene alguna que otra pecualiaridad y las reglas de adelantamientos y doblajes a veces son confusas pero como juego en sí es un simulador excelente.
