Patronage (fan expansion for Race for the Galaxy)

These cards actually look quite well done -- balanced, offering hard choices, in line with existing theme.

My rating would be higher if I liked the base game more, but I see this as on par with the existing material.

Finally got this to the table. Hard to know where this one falls. Maybe should be a touch lower but some of the card ideas are neat. More plays to fully grapple with a proper score.

RftG is a sturdy, well thought out design, resilient to being broken- it's my single favorite game. Patronage is really quite decent Fan expansion, but my short take is that unlike the 'Race' for the Galaxy, the Patronage system tends to slow things up while players jockey for Favors instead of driving for endgame. Furthermore, i didn't find the favors (once active) generally paid back for the effort needed to collect them. IMO, slower, slightly less well balanced play negates what is best about the core RftG system- to me he slower play is also a weakness of the Alien Hub. But what Patronage offers is a slightly different take on Arc I play might have evolved, and it's coherent enough to play and to enjoy the hard work going into both the core system and the fan expansion. Not likely to play it often, but glad I have it, and the chance to pull it out occasionally, as desired.

We really enjoyed playing with this set. It was surprisingly well balanced for fan-made. Thanks for the expansion!

Great addition to an already fantastic game. Nice new ideas and mechanics.
