Upon inspection, I find the quality of the components are actually better than Leipzig, and that it is a damn fine game.

La Bataille is probably the oldest still active wargame series.... and has lost none of its luster. Its beautiful aesthetics and theatricality make it a joy to play. However, the lack of consistent rules across games, the poor usability caused by its aesthetic choices and the sheer complexity of the rulesets that actually feature meaningful command and control (a sine qua non for a good Napoleonic game imo) create a high barrier to entry. Still, the reward is a gaming experience like no other.
