Russian Railroads: German Railroads

The variable player boards are a real winner so far! I enjoy the flexibility that they provide and they keep players from getting painted into a corner. RR can be a harsh game so this mitigates this a bit. Coal adds more spaces on the board and new ways to use the base structures of the game.

Essen 2015

Adds variability. Harder to solve and see winning path right away. Makes game better definetly.

The build your own map tiles helps gives even more options for your engine building, and is more replayable than the base game. Excellent expansion. The coal module is fine, though it changes up the game a lot.

Expansion

German Railroads adds some variety to special characters (engineers) and bonuses allowing for new tactics and strategies. Base game is still the same nonetheless. Does not make the game any better except for veterans who want something fresh. As an expansion German Railroads is quite good since it does not change the basic concepts of the game too much while still succeeding in creating new content.

Good expansion. At this stage I cannot tell whether I prefer it to the original or whether having more options adds or takes away from the whole.
