Only one play, and it's a loss so far.. but so much fun! Looking forward to playing again soon!
I really like this game. It is very difficult and the few times I have played it has taken quite a bit of times. Setting it up is easy and quick after the first couple of time. Only tried it solo so far, looking forward towards playing a few 2 player games in the near future. I picked it up second hand and one of the main deck cards is missing, no idea which one.
It's growing on me in a love it / hate it kind of way. Here are some suggestions:
- use dice to track titan wounds
- understanding that letting your heroes die at certain times should be part of your strategy
- approach it like a computer game that you slowly "learn" how to beat
I primarily play at 2 players and find it too long at that player count... and yet keep coming back to it. I'm thinking once my skills are better, I'll be able to draw 3 rather than 2 cards per turn making it faster and hence much closer to what I feel like the game's potential is.
Honestly, if what you're really looking for that intense non-stop feel of the show, I'd say Ghost Stories provides the superior experience mostly because it plays 2-3 times faster. That said, AoT has the IP.
That said, given how mediocre deckbuilding tends to be as a mechanic, this is pretty much a triumph.
...and it slays the other AoT game, IMO.
Update:
Been playing it with two characters, 3 card draw - this is the way to do it! Total 10.
Though I'm absolutely not a fan of the theme (but I don't mind it^^), I LOVE this game! I've been playing 2-handed, prefer the shorter version and skip the titan attack cards - this makes a perfect difficulty for me, because I don't like to get my ass kicked too much :D I love the many different possible combos, the characters with their unique abilities, the use of locations - a fantastic game!
Started watching the anime a few days ago, the game really lives up to the theme (although my first game was with 2 people who had never seen the show before - and they enjoyed the game)
hard and tense feels like the anime.
OK deckbuilder, and quite brutal. I gave it away because I thought the recipient would enjoy it more.
