One of the best set of WWII rules in its day. What I liked was it's simplicity and completeness. There were rules for cover, load capacities, engineering, command, communications, morale, air, AAA, airborne, invasions/surprise, ambushes, snipers, mines, etc, yet it did not appear complex. The rules were so well written that they were very easy to understand. Add to that, the author explained the thinking behind each rule in a separate chapter. Yes, the MG and artillery templates were a pain to make, but once made, the game was a joy to play. Best part: loved the artillery rules with short ranges and dead ground zones. To be effective most artillery pieces will have to move at least once per game. However, moving takes time during which it cannot fire. If moved close to the front line to maximize its effectiveness, it could be vulnerable to a counter-attack. Operation Warboard makes you think about how you use your artillery.

Interesting set of WW2 Infantry and Armour rules. The author was a reasonably well known thriller writer from the UK. The rules and book were also published by Pan in 1978, which gave it a reasonably wide distribution at the time.

I can't comment on how these rules have held up over the years, but back in the late 70's I found this book at my local library and began my wargaming hobby. Coupled with a slowly growing selection of Airfix figures and vehicles from a variety of sources this book gave me hours and hours of gaming pleasure. In time I transitioned to hex and counter wargames and ceased gaming with miniatures - but I would pick this rule set up and play anytime. Maybe when my kids are a bit older ;-)

Easy simple rules for using Roco tanks and 1/72 figures. I shall do a review on it soon.
