Hollywood Boulevard feels similarly obsessive about its topic (movies, stars, and movie theatres in 1954 America) as something like Obsession does. HB's worker placement mechanism is unusual (as far as I know) in that players place one (or two) meeples out each round, but the meeples leave markers behind which continue to provide benefits each round as long as you leave them there and pay for them. So that means you have to consider your initial placements very carefully, and then you need to figure out what you can afford to leave on the board. Loans are available, of course; this is Hollywood. Everything is done in order to gain more dice to roll, which in turn provide players' income. This leads me to one of the shortcomings of the production: despite coming with a bucket of dice, in our three-player game, I had to supplement more dice in order for all of us to roll at the same time. That's an easy fix, but the game wasn't cheap (shortcoming two). Top that off with a rule book that tries to be very simple but is a little too loose in places and you have an Elizabeth Taylor: a great [game] that comes with a few problems.
Excellent game, lots of fun even as a 2P version. Note printing errors on Numbskull web page and remove doubled cards. One of our cards was blank on the back but it does not affect game play.
Rich and deep in its historical theme, its gameplay is merely average. The rules and playing aids could be better written and organized. As always, the first game will be a learning game and will take longer that the time advertised. A collector item for gamers who are movie buffs.
I played the second edition, a limited run of just 60 copies, twice. The short game (4 rounds) feels long enough. I wasn’t enticed to play the longer 6-round or 8-round games.

Loved this game. I played with my daughter over the holiday week-end. For the film lovers/fans of films from 1954. It was a lot of fun with each player as theater owners and earnings based on films being played each week. We played the four round version. The film cards showing the different film genre's are awesome. Would definitely recommend! Can't wait to play again.
