simple, easy and fun game, not sure it has long term appeal
A must
I have played explorers + Rocks of Ruin 4 times as a solo game now and once with 3 people, I have to say I probably prefer the solo, the game works so well and is amazing to play. Love the expansion, it adds more choices to gain glory.
In solo it helps a lot if your captain's need the same strategy to get their bonus points. So far I made sure I had two different ones at random, but I am sure I will start picking combination that should work well or even shouldn't work so well to see if O can maximise the points. This is going to be played a lot as a solo game when my wife is not in the mood for board games and I am.
Adds more to the game without burdening my mind. More choices more fun with no rules hangover.
Makes an excellent game fantastic.
It improves the base game by providing new ways to score and paths to follow, but mainly because adding the ability to build a mill out in the ocean to which you can deliver animals (instead of lugging them in and out) better balances the viability of animal scoring and reduces the number of turns doing nothing but travelling hither and thither. A good expansion if you play the base enough, but not needed for occasional play.
