Spirit Island: Promo Pack 1

Some really fun ideas in this pack! I just wish this was not so hard to buy.

In Spirit Island box. These promos are absolute must-haves. They are amazing spirits that add plenty to the game.

I really enjoy both of the additional spirits introduced here. Heart of the Wildfire is tricky to manage as very quickly it starts to spread blight as it expands its presence (though very handy to be able to cause damage just by spreading influence as well), but if you can get into a loop where you cause blight but are also activating powers that remove blight, it can create a satisfying arc. More ability to play this spirit in the solo game with the new errata that adds one additional blight token on the 'Healthy Island' card at the beginning of the game (such that you start with two 'usable' blight tokens before the island becomes blighted).

Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island starts slow (and requires once to absorb other players' influence to reach full potential--in the solo game it can absorb its own influence which makes this part considerably easier), but can be competitive even if you never unlock his full potential (a massive 12 energy per turn and 5 card plays) because his innate powers can work quite effectively off of two card plays only. Great to pair this spirit with powers like Indomitable Claim which helps unlock some of the higher abilities more quickly.
