great game of the Fierce Fight series (among the best), the situation for the German is really difficult. to win he must absolutely risk and a lot otherwise if he always looks for favorable ratios he will lose
There's a lot to like in this mature evolution of the AVL system. I like that the Guderian "interrupt" chit is here, the new rule about withdrawing units to the reinforcement box is great for both sides - particularly the Germans, and the game plays well. True, it's still Typhoon, the mud comes, the frost, then the snow. Nakamura captures their impact with elegant simplicity, but the setting is just less dynamic, less open to maneuver than several of this game's siblings - AVL for one.
This will be my go-to game for Typhoon, but I have to be in the mood to play Typhoon.
Recommended for anyone who enjoys the AVL engine and is looking for a slugfest.
Good game, à la a victory lost, although I regret the attritional nature of combat is not shown (no loss for attackers beginning with 3/1).
A very good game using the same system as “A Victory Lost.” Plays very well solo. I wish the publisher had printed the organizational color bands denoting army on the reduced strength side of the counters. Guderian’s 2nd Panzer Army has to make hay early if Field Marshall Bock’s Army Group Center is going to have any chance of taking Moscow.
