Circadians: First Light

Glad i backed it. A really nice surprise. So far i have played with 7 different people, and everyone liked it.

Enjoyable first play with two players, then played with grandson (12) who caught on nicely to a pretty complex game. Looking forward to the second edition.

A clever action/die programming game, with a unique art style and good use of its theme. After getting in some more games at higher player counts, I've bumped my rating up - I'll go against the grain, and say the game excels the most at 3-4, where there's even more intense competition for spaces and you have to think on your feet with unforeseen consequences of dice programming. This style might not be for everyone - it can be blocking/disruption heavy, and sometimes your best laid plans are blown out of the water - but we've found its led to a lot of replayability. Held back somewhat by a poor rulebook which can make learning/teaching the game an exercise in pageflipping. The solo mode is well crafted and engaging, and holds up on multiple plays.

Bit of a saga with this one. Preordered at Essen but it got stuck in customs. Arrived almost 4 months later in February 2020. Hopefully worth the wait. Lost my appetite somewhat after seeing it played as the pieces look minute for my ageing eyes.

Having played this twice this has been a bit of a surprise as to how well it plays. Only played this solo but the AI with 3 levels of difficulty is one of the best I have played.

Recommended.

Dice placement that is light on rules, heavy on strategy, and doesn't overstay its welcome. Needs the Specialist expansion for the extra weight and replayability.

There's still something missing that I can't quite put my finger on. I never really have any desire to play it over other Garphill games.

First play so will update later. Loved the flow/pace of play which is very good. Minimal downtime. Love dice placement and dice manipulation. If you don't, should probably be a pace. A little player interaction but not much. Some tabloid building which I enjoyed as well. Not the deepest game but fills its role of a quick paced, medium depth euro very well in my opinion.
