Of all of the Cold War CDGs that follow in the wake of Twilight Struggle, I think this is the one that comes closest to really shining in the hour/sub-hour time span.
The first order of business is learning the arc of the game (getting/suppressing contacts), the second order is learning the respective decks. Like TS, this is still a super important function in a bounded design, but unlike TS, it's entirely possible to play and enjoy the game without learning the deck or future possibilities because it's just a shorter game.
Deliciously tense. A brutally zero-sum tug-of-war that may not be for everyone. I am intrigued by the gameplay enough to want to learn the decks and see how deep the strategy gets. I wish the theme came through a bit more, it's just a lot of names and pictures that don't really tie into the gameplay that much.
Good game, nice change from TS. If on fence and never played this style, I assume this is cheaper so get this. Not an equal to TS but a good alternative.
I can see the game is well made and delivers what it's designed to. It's just not for me.
Great game! I love the "tug of war" feeling present in it. The theme is awesome, but the game itself is pretty abstract. What I really didn't like is that it can take a long time, much longer than necessary, if players suffer from analysis paralysis.
