I have no point of reference or comparison with other WWII minis rules, all I know is I like these! Originally, I bought Panzer with the intention of soloing it by "playing both sides to the best of the possibilities". However (and while perhaps I should have given it more time), it just didn't do it for me and I sold it in a fit of disappointment even though it should have been just my thing. I replaced it with some proper toys (3 sets each of German and Russian microarmour) and the Panzertruppe rules, which I arrived at after hours of research on Wargame Vault. Added some green fleece fabric as a field, some free printable 6mm buildings, black ribbon road and blue ribbon river, and I was set. Yes, I am still just playing both sides and I don't even have any official scenarios beyond what I think up myself but it is still plenty of fun. It is just the right amount of charts and tables for me and the roll of a die adds the tension. The "turn" is in fact a sequence of phases that keep both sides in motion and is just brilliant. I only played the basic armour rules but have just bought some AT, SPG and infantry for another game that I can also use to enhance Panzertruppe.
Elegantly simple turn sequence makes for a very good game without the need for opportunity fire. Eliminates "gaming the edges of a turn," too. Wonderful design, well worth the price. Only failing is a la
