A fun game that nails the theme! If you're into boy bands you'll have a lot of fun with this!

Simple, thematic, lots of luck, not a lot of player agency - ok

I played this game at big bad con and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Clever mechanics that are easy to pick up, amazing art and they've hit the rare place where even when you are being attacked you are having fun. I can't recommend this game enough, brilliant game design.

Battle of the Boy Bands is a fun way to look into the concept of drafting card games. I think the idea is super creative and I like being able to get into the band building experience and talk about all of the drama between the boys with my friends.

The only thing I will say is that when playing with a larger group, the cards run out pretty quickly. There's also no specific rule about discarding your hand if any cards go un-played which leads to holding large decks towards the end of the game.

There are also no limits about how many sabotages can be played in a turn, which can lead to some brutal shutdowns. There's also a real disadvantage to whoever goes first and no rule about swapping who goes first, so we came up with a house rule to make it so that whoever goes first gets to go again at the end (white elephant rules).

The score board and play pieces are a bit small and easy to lose (since they're made of cardboard) so my friends and I opted for using other board game figures and writing our scores down on paper when we made it around the board.

All in all, it's pretty neat and I like the anime-style character art for all of the boys.

Great humour and nice art, but overall a really bland and generic drafting game with a pretty convoluted game flow. Also has issues with turn structure, as players last in turn order have an advantage due to generally being the target of less attacks since they haven't buffed any of their boys yet. Overall it's definitely a gimmick game
