After couple of plays, I like this game's rondel mechanics and resource management is just okay. Battle is somehow meh, especially between players. I like to gather good crew and collect the resources for victories, but there isn't much point for battle against other player just for upgrading legend. So sad, because this game was looking really promising and it really have good stuff for play, but overall I was a bit disappointed. Also solo mode wasn't fun to play by looking the rulebook all the time.
This may be my favorite of the Tiny Epic games, even surpassing Galaxies. The helm rondel makes action decisions unique and challenging, and it's super fun and adorable.
Too long, too slow, too many rules and too convoluted. Which is too bad, because it looks so cool! It seems to have all the right pirate flavor, but in the end it’s just frustrating and boring. My family disliked it.
Hmm. It does have a pirate feel at times. It is small in deployment and content. But like most (if not all?) Tiny Epic games, it fails to rise about ho-hum.
mini-Euro game mechanics, with a nice board variety, and exploration. Really enjoyed this!
First game was ok. Has a Merchant & Marauders feel but plays more quickly.
Player interaction is low because fighting does not involve much (being jolted has limited effect), not what I expected from a pirate game.
Played once and do not feel the urge to play again...
Tiny Epic Pirates gives a bite-sized experience of doing pirate-y things across a card map. I was impressed that the designers were able to hit a good amount of swashbuckling. Burying treasure, running from the law, and gathering your merry crew are some of the small thematic touches. The rondel is also an interesting mini-game to determine your actions. I don't feel the mechanics coalesce into anything special, but I think it's a good entry into more thought-out, complex pirate games.
I feel like having the moniker "Tiny Epic" sets an arbitrary bar for each entry to pass. This applies to Pirates as well. Are its components small? Undoubtedly. Is it an epic gameplay experience? Debatable.
