I am a big fan of Railways of the world, which happens to be in my Top 20 games of all time, so there's that! ?
Railways of Sweden is an expansion for Railways of the world and it comes with new features, operation and baron cards, snowy tiles and of course a very good quality map with the points/income track printed on it! Railways of Sweden plays exactly like Railways of the world,so you don't have too many rules to learn. One turn consists in these phases: auction, operations and income. The end game triggers as usual when a specific number of empty cities is reached, depending on the player count.
Railways of Sweden is a small map that works very good for 2 players, although 3-4 players is best, in my opinion. I am not excluding 5 players, which might be almost a war! Big part of the map has obviously expensive mountains hexes, but very well completed by some operation cards, that you can take advantage of. More than half of the cities are grey, so a delivery system is quite limited and players need to take urbanize action, quite early in the game. At least is what I think! Ferry building system is a very nice new feature. You can only build tracks there with the help of the ferry operational cards which are limited and might get players to bid some good money for first player In turn. If you have a small gaming group of 2-3 people this map is perfect. It brings the same tension and interaction like the base game. In the same time the board is compact, small and fits almost every table!
Good veritical map, ferries to islands, and just more of good rail building and pick up deliver fun.
Another map for a solid game. No complaints here!
