A moderately simple game on an unusual topic. Luck plays a substantial role, but there are strategies, and the game is not too long by way of compensation. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the rhythm of the turn, it moves right along.
As a quick, fun game with rules that are easy to pick up and get a game done in 1.5-2 hours: 9 Completeness of rules: 7, raised to 9 by consimworld support. Really only two or three things that needed more explanation, quickly supplied Components: 7—more than adequate for a magazine game. If boxed I would expect 2 more 6 sided die. As an innovation for the wargaming community: 9-- got to give it high marks for this! As a simulation: 6 Clearly it’s well beyond an abstract system looking to hang a theme on. On the other hand, it’s designed to be quick with simple mechanisms, so it’s not as interconnected and controllable as one can imagine. It gives the major elements of this fascinating and unique situation and ties them at a one level deep interaction. Given the goals of the design, the one miss would be that sinking convoys doesn’t help slow army advancement. A solid contribution to the 4 game Sea Monsters package.
Decent solo game covering the development/use of German subs during WWII.
Game Played: #40400.
This is a very fun game covering the U Boats in WW2 in a unique fashion that would be great to see duplicated in other theatres/operations. This is the first game I have from this publisher and I have to say the quality and thoughtfulness in all areas of production are top notch. I will be looking for others from them. Great game for those who love the U Boat genre.
