This is a solo PnP game recreating a 1953 hike up Mt. Everest. It consists of cards only and no dice. There are quite a few cards so be prepared to print and cut a lot. It appears to be a re-implementation of Lonely Cairn a previous game by the same designer.
The graphics are top notch and very professional. What sets this game apart is the hand drawn pictures by the designer's son. The rule book is laid out very well with plenty of pictures and sub-text. The cards themselves are easy to understand, with some having historical text. The print is very small for the historical text, so I wasn't able to fully immerse myself in the theme being unable to clearly read the text.
The rules are clear enough, but there are some unclear parts within. Aside from needed clarity on different rule aspects, it's a great game. I love the ascending location cards, creating the feeling of actually ascending up the mountain. The Encounter cards are always changing, so you can never fully know what to expect.
The Supply cards are your primary currency in the game and will get constantly shuffled and handled. So you might need to get some protective sleeves. While there is no dice, I chose to use one to reduce the wear and tear on the Supply cards, but that could affect how the Supply deck is randomized.
I like games that include some travel or progression of distance. Some examples of my favorites are Snowbirds and Adamastor. I found this one to be just as engaging and pleasantly presented as those and I would be okay in spending money for a full production release.
