I bought this game after reading a description from the designer on reddit, and got exactly what was advertised. At its core this is an RPG lite game, with objectives to encourage people to get into character keep the story moving along. I'm primarily a strategy gamer, but also have also played 1000s of hours of D&D and thought it would be fun to bring this to the table and see what happened.
The concept is great and the game works. My group enjoyed their time but didn't want to play again (ever). We spent 30 minutes after the game talking about what could make it better, so I'll leave those here to help you see if it's the right game for you:
Cards are all of the place. The fantasy theming, IMO, is too much of a distraction. It enables time vortex's, magical items, teleportation, etc.... In the 3 minutes given to act out one episode so much is happening that adding these really weird and over the top elements felt like too much to try and tie a story together. I think a more focused group of cards that were more tightly themed could make cards more naturally flow with one another instead of flipping something over and constantly scratching your head to figure out how to fit it in.
Not enough pull for introverts.
Things happen really fast. Folks that are a little less comfortable acting up and being silly may find it easier to just sit back and say that one clever thing once the time is juuuust right. Because of the timed nature of the game, that kind of playstyle feels ... suboptimal. Now, the point of the game is to have fun and it's a cooperative game, so really play however you want, but the rules certainly encourage people to be out there talking over each other, building on crazy ideas, and being super wacky.
Overall I think for the right group this could be a 10. That group would a bunch of extroverted fantasy enthusiasts with experience in roleplaying. Sadly I do not have such a friend group (I wish I did).
Since the game is in english, I have been able to play it once so far.
So far I think of this box and cards as a set of tools (and a fantastic one!) to improv, more than a game.
My first impression with only one playthrough is this: the cards prompt you easily and quickly to make up situations and character traits but the ruleset is intentionally vague on how to win, how to lose, etc. This is not that kind of game. This is more of a instant impro comedy for your friends to gather. And that can be good if that's what you're looking for.
I can imagine it really shining as a team buildup for an rpg party, or, hopefully some improv team will pick it up and make really funny videos with it.
I'll update the review once I play again.
Absolutely wonderful little storytelling game. It feels casual yet still imperative to keep the story moving forward because of the timer. There are several alternative rules for different kinds of play. I look forward to busting this out and trying all the characters and modes.
This is a cute and fun party game. I played with 5 players and all of us had a great time. The art and prompts are fun and the gameplay works well.
Great game! Very innovative and I love the wide range of wacky characters
Very fun to play as a lightning quick social roleplaying game.
Great versatile party game, highly recommend for modern nerds out there. kind of need a good party to play it with or it gets too chaotic or too awkward, but thats unavoidable. Lots of soul put in this game, great art
I made this game!
