3 games in (sadly all 2p):

  • This eliminates any desire I have to play Point Salad. I have more to ponder each turn, and I can more easily see an arc to the game in what I need to focus on vs the commit/find out of Salad.

  • The shuffle at the beginning can be brutal. We've tried equalizing the resources that get removed (to give a consistent engine option) and just shuffling and while it annoys me some, the random shuffle is probably better just for the risk management novelty. One thing I did notice when we knew there would be a consistent engine option is that I started really aggressively flipping a card when possible to prevent something else from being picked up as a resource that my opponent needed. Thats probably leaning towards optimal play in general in a zero-sum setting, but it really stands out then.

  • It's a small box, it's an easy game to learn, a general euro game is fine. Nothing really lights me on fire, but it's enjoyable.

Moderate 6. My spouse has played at 3 and enjoyed it as well, but didn't have anything really to add. I'm curious how the downtime is there compared to the cards removed.

LIKE: I like how the resource market shrinks and almost all that is left are buildings. I like buying buildings.

DISLIKE: Cannot strategize between turns much, because the cards change often. Not much to the game, and too similar to other games. I also felt the rules were too vague in areas such as how the draw deck was constructed (resources face up or down? level 3 buildings on top or bottom?) and there was no rule clarification for whether the scoring tokens could use the same card or not for scoring.

OVERALL: Meh. I think Point Salad may be better. I also think Splendor and Little Factory are better than this.

I expected a better Splendor or a better Point Salad. In practice it's much less smooth than splendor and the buildings don't have the unique effects that Point Salad cards had. I think it might have been a better game if the buildings had scoring effects on them, to make them more unique and to avoid the tier system. I can imagine that would have its own issues, but there's still just a little too much friction for the amount of randomness.

Also the icons for the resources needed are way too small on the cards, which just makes AP worse.

A better, more fun, version of point salad, although not as simple.

Ok time filler, point salad better. Has an interesting card flip mechanic and permanent resources, but monitoring and ensuring right replacement cards go out is a bit of nightmare. Better at 2/3 players.
