I really enjoy Veilwraith and ordered this thinking that it would be more of the same, albeit perhaps smaller/quicker. I don't know how I got that impression - my fault I'm sure, not that of the designer or publisher.

Anyway, this is a beautiful production and obviously a lot of love and care has gone into this game. However, for me, it suffers in comparison to Veilwraith. At this stage of my boardgaming journey, "more" is not "better," and this game is definitely "more" when compared to Veilwraith. More components, more story, more pieces, more of everything. That is not what I want for this kind of game. Much prefer playing Veilwraith.

For me, the "more" itch in this space is fully satisfied by this designer's other games - Gloom of Kilforth - which I greatly enjoy.

That said, again, this is obviously the product of very thoughtful design and is a beautifully produced game. Just not for me.

Amazing solo play.

11/23/24: I like what I see, but I clearly don't understand the strategy Lost badly my first game. Will try again. Basic gameplay is coming into focus, but I have no idea how to get enough actions to combat the piling up threats. Artwork is great. Rules are mostly clear (though I feel a few things are missing from the glossary). Setup does take a while, but it'll get quicker with time (rifling through the cards, and they do offer suggestions to improve this through organization). I like that is feels weighty as true solo. I appreciate Tristan Hall and his love for solo gaming (as well as multiplayer). Pleased, but not yet convinced. Another play coming.

Second Game: Found my Mistake in "Act" which is independent of any action. That feels much nicer. Raised to an 8. I'm definitely liking what I'm seeing. Very thematic. Second game is going quite smoothly.

It's a good solo experience. A little on the easy side at the base level, but there are various options to adjust difficulty. I haven't tried this with others, but I'm not thinking I would like it that way so much. That's just more to disrupt MY plans. :)
