These guys are just so innovative. The problem I have with co-operative games is that they are co-operative. i.e. everyone works together to produ e the best plan. Space Alert gets round this problem by introducing a (difficult) time limit which means you can't afford to sit around and thin about things. however, i don't like games with time limits...... So the rating sort of reflects my admiration fro the game and the fact that I struggle with it.

May be my favorite coop game so far.

This is an amazing, crazy, fun, intense, quick, insane game. It has a steep learning curve (par for the course for Chvatil) but worth it to learn if you have the right group.

My favourite co-op so far by a big margin. A quick burst of frantic, exciting, puzzly fun.

As a solo adventure: I deal out cards for 4 players separately as normal and try to co-ordinate between them with cards face-up. Although it has never failed to feel challenging (well, since the tutorials), after 10-12 games I found I was winning consistently with the white cards, so I shuffled the yellow ones in and lost three straight. That's more like it :D You have control over everything but piecing everything together in the time limit AND hand limitations gives it just the right level of crunch. I can see it being quite some plays before I win consistently enough to move onto yellows-only (and then adding the expansion!)

As a group: I've only introduced 1 group to the tutorials so far but I must confess I took a slightly sadistic pleasure in their reactions to the extra layers that were gradually piled on. I love how you're contending with not only finding the right actions to take but communicating consistently so that you don't mess each other up. The static parts are GENIUS. And most importantly for me, I felt my solo experience did not detract from the experience of playing it as a group. In fact, I made at least one major blunder due to my lack of awareness of what others were doing (whereas before I would've worked it all out myself).

A couple of nitpicks: I feel like you need to research the yellow threats beforehand as their effects are often not clear from the card alone. Example: Slime Y "Spread left (with 1 hit point)". The rulebook has a 4 paragraph explanation for this 6 word summary and I'll bet £10 it doesn't work how you'd think from the card alone. Also, the setup is a bit lopsided; maybe 5 mins setup, 10 mins play, 10 mins resolve, 5 mins pack away. I always play at least 3 games and don't mind at all, but I know it's a bug bear for some.

Bit of a wall of text there; I was pretty sure I'd like this game, but it easily exceeded my expectations. Love it!

edit: Upgraded to a 9.5 after getting the expansion, could easily rise to a 10

edit2: aaand it's a 10

One of Vlaadas masterpieces. No more words needed.

Basically Roborally with and audio track. This is a very mechanical game, where I felt like i was basically just following a computer program order of operations. We were only playing a beginner scenario, so maybe the advanced ones are better. But I was not impressed.

Positives: Simultaneous Gameplay Rounds are quick and intense Great challenge Instructions give playable training missions to learn game Tongue in cheek humor fits gameplay (e.g. while trying to fire a cannon, I accidentally looked out the window instead) Artwork is bright and colorful

Negatives: Intensity can wear you down after a few games Must have the right group to play several times in order to win because of difficulty level Sometimes feels like work instead of fun

Overall: The best short Co-op I've played.
