Battle Formation

I love this game but, seeing as how I designed it, I guess I'm a bit biased.

It's a 2-player strategy game. Pretty easy to learn, but a surprising amount of fun (if strategy games are your thing). The goal is to break through the opposing troops, reach the other players fort, and kill their general. You're rewarded for creating and maintaining useful troop formations (firing lines), but individual marksmen have their place as well.

It's interesting to watch how new player's strategies develop as they play their first few matches.

A neat combat system that encourages formations without requiring them. There is room for multiple strategies. Armies tend to fire marksman shots as they close, then shift to formation firing when the opportunity arises, then someone makes a push and the other player either races them or stalls.

I found that the first player consistently won by one turn, barring poor luck when firing at the general. The earlier turns seemed interesting, but the game kept ending the same way.

I also think the game needs some kind of additional twist. Perhaps some unit variety, another formation, melee rules, some kind of asymmetry, or something to increase replay value. The core rules are solid but not quite enough on their own.
