SNAFU Pocket Battles #2. This is a light simulation of the battle of Berestechko between Poles and Cossack-Tartars. It is in the tactical level with a system of activations through dice. The focus is in (simple) maneuvers and collecting command points used to rally the troops or activate joined assaults. There is a huge distinction between cavalry and infantry as they have different movement and combat procedures. Retreats can be bloody. It somehow reminds of the C&C:A system but using also dice for activation. Very nice portable wargame for some light sessions and trying new approaches to the battle.
Solid 9 in “fillers/gateways” category.
Initial solo play.
Visual design is quite strong in this one. The gameplay is also fine - only my dice rolling skills suck.
Coordination and Reorganization tracks are very important, as attacking one-on-one is not a guarantee of victory.
Lots of little tasty wargaming tidbits in this one - like differences between cavalry and infantry, between Polish and Cossack/Tartar side.
I'd like activation markers to be smaller than unit counters, but the game works and looks mighty fine.
Un mini wargame amb una alta rejugabilitat, fàcilment adaptable com a solitari, ràpid setup, poques fitxes, duració de la partida aproximada entre 30-40 minuts... Al pot petit la bona confitura!
