3 players is a great game. The time was about 50 min. The 4 player was just as good, but it took about 10-15 min more.
Awesome graphics, good game play and interaction, with a lot of trading. A light to medium strategy game that kids and adults can play.
The first play took just over an hour, but it went by quickly because of all the interactive play. It took a game or two to see how interlocked the mechanics were and how getting a dragon is great, but don't use them too hastily. I liked the castle building mechanic and the overall ease of the game. How would I sum it up? Fun!!
I really had a fun time playing Knights of the Realm. I played with my kids and they loved it and then I played with my game group and they loved it as well. Rules are easy to understand. The trading keeps you in the game and the way you build castles is simple and cool. But what everyone loved was that you get to fight dragons and then use their power to mess with your opponents. I highly recommend this game, its fun with medium strategy and leaves you with a good feeling even if you lose. I recently downloaded the new 2nd edition rules and the valor tokens. I like that the game is quicker and that some things were tightened up, like the dragon rule that gives the player that is not doing so well a chance. The Valor tokens also help with that and give players a chance even if they lose against the dragon. I like games that give people a chance to come back.
Knights of the Realm made me feel like I really was a knight battling dragons and defending the kingdom. The cards are cool, the gold is fun to use and the game play is interactive. I like games that keep me involved even if I am not doing so well. I gave it an 8.5 because I have only played once, but I thought it was well made and had a lot of replayability. I plan on playing it many more times. Ok, zoom ahead a month or so and now I have played 14 times and still would give it the same rateing. Usually my first instincts are correct. A must buy.
It's a really solid game, but as others have observed, it goes on just a little longer than it should.
