Barring a request from my little girls (who prefer whimsy and faerie to dungeon delving) this one is likely to get passed over in favor of lesser evils like Dungeon-quest or Talisman. Speaking of those, it borrows (in the case of Dungeonquest, shamelessly steals) the most dubious mechanics of both. Roll and move, flip a tile/card see what happens, and far too long for the level of depth they provide.

There are some improvements over its mechanical forebears. At least you can make some choices like which rooms to visit, which direction to go, and when you use each of your items. There is a good degree of narrative built into this (you are an actual character with several pages of backstory in the provided story book). The event cards have ample (occasionally overwrought) descriptions. The execution of the theme is sound enough.

But it’s roll and move!

I say give this one a pass and suffer through dungeonquest. At least it’s not mostly black and white.
