A true labour of love though possibly a bit too Old School for many. It is nice to see a designer producing something based on historical reading rather than a thoughtless clone game. I think I'll limber up with a game of Caesar's Legions first.
At least this designer knows it is Gaul not Germania....
Ok just based on reviewing game just purchased. Very good component quality. this is old school but that’s what I like. Would recommend. Will update rating after I’ve played a campaign game
I've just begun to get into this game but I am very impressed so far by the level of detail that is possible... It appears to have a great level of technicality and just the kind of game I was looking for regarding this subject.
(Edit: the rules need to be better organized, this would not be too hard to do, but requires everything to be divided and subdivided by number and sub-number etc. so that all can be cross-referenced. There is a great need to be able to say, "please see thus and so rule number for clarification..." The game is complex, so it needs this update. Maybe 3rd edition will do this.) Also more player aid help -- a flow-chart of what exactly needs to be considered each turn would be a great help. Also, the scenarios need much better "How to start this" description including referencing to rules as stated above. Johnson is on the right track, now just get the rules in shape.)
Superb remake of a classic design (Caesar's Legions)
