From www.pagat.com:

"Big Three (Da San) is played in Shaanxi province. It uses a 52-card pack without jokers and takes its name from the fact that the threes are the highest cards. It is also known as Dig a Hole (Wa Keng - 挖坑 - the idea being that the bidder digs up the four undealt cards in the hope of finding buried treasure. There are usually three players, and in each hand one player plays against the other two, trying to be the first to play out all his cards in valid combinations."

Big 3 is a lot like Fight the Landlord: bidding 1/2/3, temporary alliances. But take out the (a) bombs (b) multipliers, (c) most of the combinations. It has the virtue of simplicity. The A,2,3 (highest three cards) can't be used in runs, so that becomes your major strategic cutting move. However, I didn't find it nearly as exciting or skillful as Du Dizhu. For simple games without a lot of bombs I much prefer Big 2 or Tien Lens. And I have Fight the Landlord for 3, so I won't be coming back to this.

151117 Not getting play but its a good climbing game.

110126 Very interesting variation on a climbing game. The fact that the runs stop at King leaves the A-2-3 caste as a particularly set of cards, but also makes the King quite valuable also. As the bidder, its gauge how powerful your hand is due to this setup.

A good beginners game in the climbing genre.
