It's a good things the base game did not start here. It's sometimes good to get the "worst first" out of the way, so it only gets better with time, but if this were the first game in the series, it may have not got off the ground.
I'm not hating, but after playing the Romans and Carthaginians in the Punic Wars and the Marian and Julian legions with higher mobility, these scenarios are plodding and slow and unimaginative. I had a game where I had the "I am Spartacus" card and refused to play it. I would have rolled 6 dice and all but one of my units were medium infantry. That means, statistically speaking, I would have activated 2 units. There was a decent chance that I whiff.
Not a lot of unit variety and they are slow moving, 5 block medium infantry. It's a good history lesson. I don't regret getting this because 20 scenarios means I'll get my money's worth. I'll learn some history (best part of wargaming!) and how can one have ancients without the Peloponnesian Wars? But compared to the other expansions in the series, this is the weakest one by far.

Like the addition of the walled cities as well.
If you have the 1st expansion (which is the best in the series in my opinion) I consider this one an instant buy to complete the experience of hoplite battles of ancient Hellas.
Some interesting battles covered. Mirrors my 15mm ancient army so interesting module. Like the way Hoplites are handled.
After setting up a few of the smaller scenarios to play it appears some are very unbalanced, but that reflects the history.
Boosted rating from 7 to 9 after a very tight game of Mantinea.
muy bueno, aunque los espartanos no sean infanteria pesada
