Best to avoid this “expansion” unless you are a die hard experienced player. Weak “need” for the “Dark Elves” in the stable of the game’s factions.

Myopic design flaws create out of proportion rules restructuring for the rest of the game.

Significant lack of play testing. The fundamentals to the faction’s special abilities showed Obvious Problems but it went into production anyway. Official errata caused by the incompatiblities in this faction’s special abilities makes the Rules which were published with it, ver. 3.0, immediately problematic in usefulness.

Highly questionable design features. Giving a significant proportion of the units the “Fearsome/Terrifying” bonus has required that section of the rules to be reworked for the 3rd and 4th time.

A strange special spell for the Lashmistress is now done out of the normal combat phase, causes considerable Player problems in the flow of the game. Due to this shift, other special spells that would normally be utilized immediately in conjunction with the “Siren’s Song”, now must be planned a turn ahead, thus circumventing a fundamental standard to the rules, that actions such as spells and combat get resolved in the same phase. That can’t happen if the spell you want to affect has already resolved in the previous phase.

The Flying unit present has been severely nerfed by Official/unofficial errata pushed by One vocal player because he didn’t like the way it upset his game.

Unofficial errata that is being pushed further changes the stats on some spells and units.

Unfortunately, as the game now stands, with a player that is unfamiliar to you, you will need to have an agreement on how to settle differences of opinion on the rules; with focus on having fun.

For a Tournament situation or one of very competitive play, spend some time going over which rules you all will be agreeing to play by and some significant details of play, to boot.

A nice expansion for the BFW system. This is an interesting faction to play, like most elves factions they have good morale(13), are hard to hit but have low protection (Def 3/1) and few hit points. What make them different is that most dark elves are Fearsome or Terrifying, and so they frighen their ennemy. They are also good on attack with several 6/6 units. Plus their racial ability is to inflict an extra damage point when they do at least one. They have good cavalry and some very powerful spellcaster, 4(6/6) range 21 !!!

Their most intriguing units are the Lashmistress, who have the ability to distract targets and force them to move toward and eventually attack them (the Lashmistress), a sort of charm spell.

The v3.0 rules are better than ever, and the new double sized hard box is really cool. Oh, and the artwork is just awesome.

Multi-player capable Tactical Complexity: Simple Duration: 1-2 hours

A simple fast miniatures game that uses a playing-sized card to represent a unit of miniatures instead of multiple miniatures. Semi-collectable but at least you get a complete army in 1-2 boxes. For 30 bucks you buy two different army boxes and have plenty of stuff to play with. I have most of the armies but did not list them all individually. Men, Orcs, Undead, Elves, etc.
