A very thematic game with immersive story telling features, push your luck mechanics, and 'cliff hangers' (extra dice rolls and blind card draws) - none of which appeal to me. Can't forget to mention the inclusion of the ubiquitous femme fatale tropes with special powers. People who like Talisman should also enjoy this equally awful game.
Kill Nazis? Heck yeah. Really long but really fun.
At our last game day, my friend called this "Indiana Jones but we couldn't afford the license." An apt description indeed. It has almost everything you could want in a dice-chucking, cliffhanger-flipping, Nazi-fighting, pulpy adventure game. Almost.
While I always enjoy the game for the crazy narratives created (e.g. a nightclub in Tokyo that is secretly a front for pygmies), and the look and feel of racing around the globe looking for artifacts (enhanced since I painted the miniatures), the game often feels just a bit too long for what it is. Even playing with only 3 players, our games regularly go 2.5-3 hours. Now part of this length is that we enjoy reading the cards, hamming it up, and doing silly "find out next time..." voices for cliffhangers. But even this usually lasts only for about the first 1.5 hours, and then the game keeps going. I'm not opposed to long games, but all the players need to feel involved the whole time, and while this has happened in our games, there have also been games where everyone gets a bit of a glazed-eye look after 2 hours. I've been thinking about reducing the amount of fortune needed to win to 12 or even 10 - something high enough that a player will need two artifacts at a minimum, but will hopefully cut a bit of time. Maybe to increase the challenge with this lower fortune, I would include a vile organization all the time.
Still, a fun adventure game with buckets of character (and dice!). Don't expect deep decisions or more than a pulpy (preferably alcohol-fueled) romp with a few friends and you'll find a lot here to like.
Nice and fun game but a little too random.
