Rating based on 1 part play. Too long for me.
Phew! Where to start. A grand scale game that plays quickly compared to others of this nature. The many mechanisms fit so well together. The game appears to scale very well between 2 & 7 players. Mutliple playings should be rewarded by new and interesting situations and approaches. However, I am becoming increasingly tired of some of the fiddly rules which don't really add anything to the game and it would have been nice to see those developed out. Rating is dropping (originally an 8). The alliance mechanism is still excellent however.
Relatively straightforward gameplay with limited actions, but there are many possibilities to consider. Seems to be a game that only works well with even numbers of players. It would have been nice to use another mechanic other than dice-rolling, but the game is good enough to easily overcome this limitation.
Deluxe Edition.
With the right group (and right mindset) and enough time, the game is fantastic. Area Control also needs to put effort to find who to be a partner with (unlike silly talk in Rising Sun).
Tech Tree is a little due and aged but not really make the game boring. Risk management is fine but a little too much luck for my taste. Lower penalty of a ship sailing from the old version is a better choice for me.
Bad rulebook. Whoever writes the deluxe version' rulebook deserves public shaming. wrote like a time traveler guy in TENET as the way to explain things totally not in order and the summary leads to more confusion. There are 3 pages about how to resolve combat in many cases 'BEFORE' telling after that that 2 dice need to roll. Also, many poorly organized information and wording are present.
Also, the box that can't fit everything in. The silly tray design that nothing but mere holes to put tokens unfit. and call this deluxe edition, Seriously?
Pseudo-wargame muy resultón y que sabe mantener un gran nivel de tensión en los jugadores durante la partida. La única pega es que el azar influye bastante...
Lives up to it's rep
A brilliant game but needs the "right" players.
