I received the mounted counter version of this game, for an extra $5.00 for mounted counters, it’s worth it!
An interesting Civil War 1864 naval battle for sure!
After one play, I found it an enjoyable gaming experience but those Ironclads on both sides are frustrating to sink, unless by mine, so it's pretty historical.
A DTP hex & counter Civil War naval action of the Battle for Mobile Bay. Option to order with or without the mounted counters and designer activation cards (in lieu of using a regular deck of playing cards); however, you cut out the cards and the counters. The map is an attractive representation of the bay with the key features being Forts Morgan and Gaines. Unit counters represent Union and Confederate ironclads, timberclads, and various gunships. The counters have combat factors, protection factors, and dots representing movement factors. Draw Activation Cards to gain 1-3 activation points (either Union or Confederate) used to either move, fire, or repair one different ship/fort per activation point. Game play is a slug fest as Farragut's ironclads duel it out with the CSS Tennessee and Fort Morgan, watching most shot bounce off the target or get repaired. The advantage is in drawing a series of cards in a row to sustain hits on an opponent. Overall, once you digest the rules and understand the mechanics (no easy task at first), the game plays fast and smoothly. A good design for a low budget production.
