Werewolf boiled down to a micro game. Not sure there is much skill beyond the scheming. It isn't quite that werewolf feel any more, but it is close.
An example of a great idea turned into something that can then be scaled down to something kids can play. Werewolf is one of the greatest party games, and probably Game game, period. The Werewolves of Millers Hollow, also, is a great game. I feel this does them a great service by scaling things back into a very accessible app, and tokens to identify the roles and make it more of a "game".
There are downsides, of course. Speaking too early, or playing with a group that just doesn't "get" how it's supposed to work, can make for bad experiences. But I find that if the group is willing, repeated plays can bring out the fun in this game.
Additionally, this game leads in to plays of games like Dead of Winter, or Coup, very well. It's a fitting start or end to a themed night of "traitors, backstabbers, and hidden roles".
Great party game! The 3 other couples we played with loved this game. Will definitely play again.
My absolute favorite sub-10 player count social deduction/hidden role game. It's a logic puzzle with lots of possible different interactions. In particular, I appreciate that there is a timer that short circuits some of the thinking.
Plays surprisingly well at 3/4p and I'd prefer it there over 9-10p almost any day.
Reskin of the old Mafia party game. The biggest benefit of this one is that there is no player elimination. The app is pretty nice too.
Have racked up most of my plays of this with an experienced group and man it's hard to get the hang of. On the flip side it seems like it might have the most longevity in the genre, but it's best if skill levels are roughly matched. Having one new guy as the lone werewolf can lead to an extremely flat round - speaking from experience! But then again, it's only 10 minutes.
It also has a surprisingly different feel to anything else in the genre I've played. And I think it'll work well 4p which is a bonus.
edit: it took a long time but I am definitely sold on this. It has a more dynamic, puzzly feel than The Resistance and I definitely think it's worth owning both.
edit 2: Now my clear favourite in the genre and one that only seems to get better and better.
