The goal cards and the more bountiful travel map are essential additions, I would not play without them. Now you can throw your meeples overboard when they outlive their usefulness. Sweet.

Absolutely essential expansion for Village. Strengthens the travel action so it is far more balanced and makes the travel component much, much, much more fun. Suddenly, your family members are going abroad and becoming missionaries, or trading goods in far off places, or finding treasure... you're hiring a captain, loading a ship, bring loot back. It's just incomparably better. The life goals also add thematic flavor and also actually help new players by offering a potential direction. Although I also like Inn, Port is the expansion that I truly feel is a must-have. Better yet - it's not so complex that it can't be used with new players. I teach the game to players with the expansion and so far, no problem. I might leave it out only if I was teaching Village to someone who has not played worker placements before, but I would also likely not suggest Village as a first worker placement.

I enjoyed this expansion a lot, it makes the travel action even more interesting and very enjoyable for all players, not just the first to travel.
