Rating based on - 3 plays, 2 player Trains: Gen Con 2015 contains two full sized maps of China and the Bay Area. The China map consists of a large forested area to the west, lots of sea to the east, and a bunch of cities dotted about the centre of the map surrounded by fields, forests and rivers. There are only a few remote areas with the largest being Kashgar for 6 points. The Bay Area map has the remote areas spread pretty evenly on the outskirts, a decent sized forested area and sea to the south east, and has quite a few barriers. New to me was the use of bridges where you must pay money in addition to any other costs. We played the China Map once and the Bay Area twice.
Trains is a game that always has very pretty maps whether in the base game or the multitude of expansions. This set of Gen Con maps available as a free Print & Play file from the AEG website is no exception. However Trains is a game that we don't find plays that great with only 2 players and these two maps are 4 player maps like those in the base game so our games were always wide open. Aside from that the gameplay just doesn't grab me. I love the theme and look of the game but deckbuilders just don't seem to be my thing. Status: AXED
