Love the board element and takes Dominion to a new level. BUT. If you didn't like curse cards in Dominion, you will hate this as Waste just clogs your hand up to much. I quite like curse cards but I hate Waste cards
Has everything I liked about the deck/engine building of Dominion with an additional route building/area influence board. Not wild about the theme, but I can make do.
Route cards from Rising Sun complete the game - I can't imagine ever playing it without them now.
Map Pack 2: Europe/Italy/California Rising Sun
Nice board game with deck building. Everything but cheap cubes for rail line is nicely done. Box perfect for future expansions.
I LOVE TRAINS SO MUCH! Ok, sorry....I'll be calm. On the surface this game looks super boring, the art on the board looks dull and uninteresting and the theme is very thin...but the gameplay is fantastic! So well designed and balanced, I can't wait to play again...and again.
Own the expansion.
One of the games that my GF plays so yay! Theme lacks though.
Map is under-used. Rising Sun should fix it to some degree. Gameplay meditative and charming. Cards very nice. Map serves as another scoring field, but not as source of player interaction(sadly).
It's a game more about limiting the player and making them feel bad than letting them actually have fun in any way. Instead of being empowered, the player is made to feel like they're drowning in trash cards and barely keeping their head above water. This can technically be an okay design decision, in a game that's about struggling and weathering a terrible life event, like This War of Mine, but Trains is about trains. There's no reason for it to feel this bad to play. And I checked, it's not just me having an unusual experience, friends said the same. That isn't even mentioning the fact that what mechanics it does have otherwise just aren't implemented very well at all. Why would you ever want to play such a bad game. Avoid at all costs.
