Fun game with amazing Theme and tension filled gameplay
Room 25 is inspired by the survival movie "Cube". Players program actions to explore tiles and find the exit to escape before being killed.
Pros:
- Artwork (interesting characters, clear)
- Theme (futuristic, survival)
- Components (player boards, tiles, plastic miniatures)
- Simultaneous action selection (little downtime)
- Random, modular board
- Exploration: plenty of room tiles with different effects (neutral, bad, or worse)
- Simultaneously hidden action programming. Each action is revealed one by one. Player order is quite important
- Player interaction: players can push each other and move a row of room tiles. This causes chaotic and fun moments due to programmed actions. Cooperation is necessary.
- 8 strange characters with unique powers
- Each player has a token to mark tiles (can be used for bluffing)
- Several playing modes with different win condition: competitive, semi-cooperative (hidden traitor), team and cooperative mode (expansions add more modes)
- Adjustable difficulty: number of green, yellow, and red tiles at set-up
- Player aid combined with player boards
- Easy to teach, learn, and play. Simple rules.
- Quick playing time
Neutrals:
Language dependent: room tile descriptions, player powers
Some memory elements for peeked tiles
Player elimination
Cooperative mode is not that exciting, the game is best with suspicion mode. The Escape Room expansion adds and improves the cooperative mode.
Ultimate edition comes with base game and first expansion. It also has better player aids and some rule tweaks regarding the guards. However, team and competitive mode has been removed, but can be looked up in the old rulebook.
Rules could be more condensed and better formatted.
Scales well with 4-8 players
Cons:
- Swingy, random set-up (tiles and traitors)
- Set-up takes some time: sorting out the right room tiles and placing them into the facility
- Room tiles do not have their names printed on them which would have made identifying them easier
- Some downtime at higher player counts

- Forbidden Desert (more puzzly, more open information, cooperative only)
Really fun game, programmable actions and semi-cooperative with hidden info playing a good part of the game. Near the end, gameplay becomes a bit predictable, but still an enjoyable experience and a game that I would gladly play again.
Would not need to own, as I would not get a lot of opportunities to play it due to time and the semi-cooperative + programming aspects being hit or miss with gaming groups.
