Highly advanced wargame for its time, with punch counters, combat resolution charts, and the spinner equivalent of D10 & D8 dice. Not only is there the tactical element of eliminating enemy ships and planes, there is also big picture strategy involved with the interdiction of supply lines, and denial of strategic resources like oil and raw materials. A much better game than many give it credit for..
Back in the late 50s the game that started it all. Wargaming with my brother and cousin. We play this game to this day with some Fog of War modifications. The greatest being, we have 3 boards and sets of units. One player is the referee and gets the movement plots from each of the other 2 players and lets them know what they can see (we developed sighting rules). The referee's board has all the units from both sides on it. But a player only knows where his opponent's forces are when his units are in sighting range.. You also don't know if your opponent is out of a war material and on the clock. Looking forward to playing this fun version when we get together in October.
A 1940s-vintage wargame that is advanced for its time. It includes the importance of supply and resources in wartime, raiders and convoy tactics, and combat using a reasonable combat-results-table. The game still has some random outcomes, but there's enough strategy and challenge to make it quite interesting and enjoyable.
