Grand Tactical game of the Franco Prussian war. 1 stand = 1 battalion. A unit=3 stands which represents a regiment (2000-3000 men). Can be used with 6mm-15mm figures (6mm recommended given the ground scale). 1 inch on the tabletop represents 120 yards in 'real life'. Units must be given orders in the form of cardboard chits plus maybe a word or two written down (like advance down the road and take the town). I think the author shot himself in the foot with his gorgeous custom tabletops (made with artist's canvas stretched over wooden frames and painted with artist's paints) pictured in the rulebooks (and demo'd at conventions). After seeing that terrain I can't play the game on anything else (and I'm certainly not going to make that terrain myself). Rulebook is worth it if you are into the period as it contains a wealth of historical information.
All these books are outstanding references alone, the well done rules are a bonus.
Excellent wargame, not too fiddly yet not too simple. Requires a buttload of miniatures, but the game works fine with paper counters as well.,
Excellent source book with solid wargaming rules
Excellent set of rules, tons of info.
