CZ version
Best civilization game I've played. So bad I don't play this enough often, then rules, mechanics and keys for victory are forgotten. I wish to have more gameplays.
I had a lot of fun playing this game. The downtime between turns could sometimes be long but I like all the mechanics going on in this one.
BOX 2
Game components are not perfect. Should have actions tracker and some indication of city activation.
Goals and events not balanced
1 play / 3 players (shorter game)
LIKE: A good design, the mechanisms are woven well, the tech tree is delicious and the map terrain really adds to decisions. A very good 4x civ experience. I felt the rules were, overall, not complicated.
DISLIKE: Rolling dice and random events are random. If a player is behind the entire game, rarely are there chances to catch up (for beginners), and for a 4-5 hour game I would suggest to warn novice players entering this type of game. I'm not especially fond of random games that last for hours. The tech tree had tiny writing and tiny icons. Difficult to discern for beginners. We found a lot of edge case situations that were not answered cleanly in the rules. Tracking the cities for actions taken was one thing we struggled with and missed a lot of rules, I think it would have been better to see an optional board to help track this information.
OVERALL: I rolled a few 1's when attacking early, so therefore my first novice play of this was not the most pleasant. In euro-games, mistakes can be costly, but players learn from mistakes. What did I learn here? Don't attack. Attacking costs actions in recruiting and movement. Yet many points in the game could be earned through warfare. Without war, the game dissolves into an efficiency race, where unfortunately, there are other games I'd rather play. It should be said, however, I am not a player who seeks out the war-tension in games.
C&C is much more epic than Antike, but I prefer Antike because of the speed in playtime. Would I play C&C again? Probably. Own it? Meh. I do own it, but will it stay? Meh.
