Echo the comment of: A bizarrely bloated, ludicrously overwritten re-edition of the original elegant game. How the mighty have fallen.

One of my favorite games. 95% of what you want to do will quickly become routine for you as units move and shoot. Sure, if are going to conduct a paradrop or river assault, you have to read some extra pages. Otherwise, it is literally moving and shooting. You will gave to look at the chart book as you play but once you have a few games under your belt, you'll know where to go and what to look for. Looking forward to V Corps!

I recommend this game for its ability to incorporate the nature of combined arms at an operational level. Tanks, mechanized infantry, artillery, air support, helicopters, engineers, on and on; it's all there. All these aspects provide the player with capabilities reflecting the nature of warfare in the '80s.

There is an investment in time as the rulebook is long. However, I found reading the basics of command, movement, and fire combat rules followed by playing the initial turns of the introductory scenario to be very helpful. I read the strike, artillery, and other rules as I encountered those aspects of the game.

The examples of play are plentiful. I did not find the rules "verbose" but comprehensive to ensure clarity.

I've been playing two games of Air & Armor and found the game very compelling, especially with the Hidden Mode rules. This is a new and innovative system of bringing fog of war into the game.

I feel there has been some criticism of the game, some valid and some not. Some complaints include the rulebook not containing proper pronouns, the designer should have used the would "may" instead of "can", or the game was underdeveloped. Some may be disappointed that the new game is more detailed and has more rules than the original. Some may be off put by the length of rules and complexity. It is not for everyone.

I guess each player must evaluate everything, and what is important to him, as to whether the game is worthy of their purchase and time or not.

I speak from experience. I will be playing more Air & Armor at Consim Expo and will have another multiplayer game planned for WWIII Con. So, despite the long rules and time needed to digest them, I still give it a 10 for fun and interest.
