Great intro to Legends of the Ancient World. Tough but quick and self-contained.
Decent adventure, but each encounter is pretty close to the pcs in terms of power, so not really balanced. Still, a nice set-up and decent story payoff. Not as good as TSM for introducing new LAW players to tactics.
A great intro to RPGs. Played with four people.
An excellent series. I wish all at Dark City Games, Inc. much success with their games.
Excellent little module which I hope is the beginning of the resurrection of this great old Melee/Wizard system. Looking forward to more modules in the future.
As the author of this prequel adventure, of course my review is totally biased.
We created this as a primer to introduce players to the various rules of LAW. As a result, my plot is a little stilted and there are some cliche encounters designed solely to give the players a chance to figure out how to use certain skills and abilities. (Locked Room, ranged combat encounter, evil spellcaster, history/scholar test, tracking, etc.)
Its been through a few edits and I haven't played the most recent version. But it was fun to write and playtest.
The biggest drawback is that characters optimised for combat will find most of the battles too easy and may miss out on some of the skill check tasks and rewards.
(It's also a prequel to Little Black Book, which is now out of print.)
