Having recently recieved my Kickstarter copy of Blood & Plunder: Raise the Black I can say that it is without a doubt the best starter set I have ever had for any system. Everything you get inside the box is fantastic. We played our first game using the contents last week and it is such a fun game. Highly Recommend!
So much content for such a low starting price. I don't know too many other games on the market that are going to give you the volume of stuff at this level of quality for the price. Throwing the cards, mat, rulebook, and terrain out the window, the # of minis + 2 full-sized ships is a bargain!
Great value. Even has enough dice, unlike some other starter sets I recently bought. Nicely packet, small change of the manual getting nicked corners, unlike some other starter sets I bought in the past.
One of the best starter sets for a miniature game you will find. Has the core rules for land AND sea battles. Artwork, components, etc... are all top-notch.
I’m a Kickstarter backer of the two player starter set.
I bought this because I wanted a hobby and modeling project that was backed by a tested and refined rules set.
The production value in these kits is quite high and I’m clearing the deck and putting them at the top of my project cue.
(Rating represents my hype levels after unboxing, author of this comment thinks numerical ratings are silly but “when in rome”.
It's clearly one of the best wargames available on market. Clear and simple rules, extremely fast to learn. Miniatures are as high-quality as for example Games Workshop stuff. But even with cool miniatures and simple rules, there is one thing that is a few levels of magnitude more important than those. Gameplay! That's the game you always want to come back to it, play one more round, try in other way your roster - everything just for another "so maybe another round? how about the next game"? Immersion, feeling of black powder smoke above head, feeling the wind in hair. Yup, that's truly the best game: both historic and wargame.
