- Improved rulebook (compared to the predecessor).
Latest update: After having played it sometimes now I feel that this game is great fun the first hour or so but then it becomes too much work. Too mathematical and repetitive. I am not sure it is worth the time, There are other puzzly games that have much better flow, are more fun and that present awesome puzzly decisions with more theme.
The newest rules clarifications and errata & FAQ compilation can be found here: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/229602/mistfall-consolidated-faq-errata If you are playing Mistfall and not Heart of the Mists (HotM) skip the rulebook that came with the game and read the updated one instead: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/230460/rulebook-21 If you are playing either Mistfall or Heart of the Mists, don't use the player aids cards/sheets that come with the games. They have some of the rules completely wrong. Instead use these ones: HotM: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/211251/player-aid-and-rule-reminder Mistfall: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/191888/player-aid-and-rule-reminder
[Update: There are a lot of rule details and confusions that pop-up during gameplay. Sometimes it is a card that seems to be missing a keyword, another time it is a card that has a keyword that no other card in the game makes use of. It makes the game feel unfinished at times. You have to be ready that this game is somewhat rough, even if the gameplay mostly feels very well done. Encountering these problems while playing really slows down a game that is already quite heavy. My main grip with this game is that it takes a lot of time for what it is. When it works it is really good, and it does work most of the time. It is just not as polished as I had hoped it would be and it shows despite all the work the community has put in to fix the game. It is fun to find card combinations, to solve encounters and deal with enemies gathering at your heroes. I recommend mixing all decks (core Mistfall HotM, and Sand & Snow for more variety) I really like the art and the puzzly feeling is nice but there's so much overhead to play this game I am starting to doubt if it is worth it. The added layer of having to interpret some cards and situations due to missprints or unclear instructions on cards can make it tiresome to play at times. I still like the game and it is quite unique.]
This is a good Adventure card game. It deserves better support but it seems like the developers have abandoned it for now. However the community has managed to "patch" things up quite well. The game poses the players with interesting choices where you will often weigh performing more actions against attracting more enemy focus upon you. During your turn there are a lot of interesting choices you can make that gives this game a puzzly feel that I enjoy very much. There are tons of enemies and encounters and you can mix Mistfall Core with Mistfall Heart of the Mists content. Enemies are varied and interesting and so are the encounters. Playing multiple characters (solo) or Co-op with combined turns variant is when this game's mechanics really shines. The game uses a Range-system where a range of 1 can target all cards in your Hero Area and a range of 2 also the cards of the other players Hero Areas. Each decks has a puzzle to solve with how you can combine the cards and manipulate the deck to your advantage. It is really nice to find combos that work between two Heroes. When taking actions you have to balance who should attract the most focus but you also have to deal with the enemies in each Hero Area. The combat is deterministic and there are many ways to adjust the difficulty. The game is a bit hard to get into, each deck requires some learning but once you understand the rules well and the decks alright you can soak in more of the theme. For most part the mechanics makes some thematic sense. The mechanics simulate close combat encounters quite well and it feels like an adventure moving through the harsh lands full with peril.
