So far only 'Skulls', 'Swamps' and 'Shrines' modules tried.

Skulls and swamps are just a bump in a variety.

Shrines have a clear impact - the game becomes longer with them. I'm not sure if the quality of experience improves accordingly, though. Adding just 1 or 2 shrines could be a happy medium. And be careful where you put them on the track. They can become bottlenecks really easily and some players may abuse that and annoy co-players. I think it's best to place them in a way that they are accessible from 3 hexes.
