Another fantastic book game from Mike Lambo! I'm running out of ways to praise these games. The designer continues to surprise me with how he can vary the feel of each game so much within the same basic design constraints.
I knew I'd like this one from the start and I have not been mistaken! It has clean, simple mechanics, with the spiders acting in ways that are very straightforward and thematic - no need for dice rolls and charts which add some complexity to the bots in some of the other book games. I especially love the way the spiders grow in power by absorbing one another - genius!
Unlike the other games, in this one dice are used solely for combat- otherwise, everything moves based on a simple action point system.
And I love the theme - a team has to explore an alien ship and fight hordes of alien spiders - what's not to like?!
I remarquable distillation of a dungeon crawler. You must like to do some DIY components. It's a very fun experience, but it's a little shallow... by design.
Recommended, at the very least for the experience. The price of entry make it a no brainer.
This is my third Lambo's game. After 5 missions in, this is a 9 for me. More control than Ghost of the Jungle and Battles of Medieval Britain, but still easy to learn. This is my favorite of the three. Highly recommended!
What a lovely game! The rules guarantee a sufficiently complex game experience without being cluttered or difficult to understand. Everything feels very logical and easy to grasp. I didn't even read the whole manual, just jumped in in mission 1 and looked up details in the manual when necessary. The game gives me similar vibes old computer games did - stuff like Incubation, Rebelstar 2, Lasersquad or X-Com which is fantastic. I always craved for an accessible game that manages to give me these experiences. As it's the case with many of Mr. Lambo's ingenious designs, this one too could easily be adapted for other scenarios, additional elements (different enemies, weapons, characters etc.), as it's very open rulewise. While I like many of Mr. Lambo's designs this one is a new favourite. Not nearly as complex as his other games but far from being simplistic. Plus it has a very small footprint and just feels perfect in size and scope. A winner and a keeper!
Hitting a very sweet spot for operational complexity, challenging situation resolution and flavor. Team members all feel different enough to warrant many replays.
Another quality title from Mike! Each game is varied and expertly crafted for the material.
Another great Lambookgame. This time your team have to deal with pesky space spiders. I found this one a little too easy.
