Not a "bad" game per se but after playing it once I have no desire for a second game.
a bit repetitive after a couple of rounds. I need to try it again and again but finding people who wants to try it is not so easy
I liked this one a lot, it is kind of a more interactive version of Dominion. For a small company, production value is high. I would say that there can be a "landslide" effect, as the player that wins more skirmishes gains cards that make it easier to win more skirmishes.
I lost my copy and hope to replace it when the first expansion comes out. This is the first spin-off game I encountered based on Dominion. Very good self-published game. Could have used a bit more polishing but, plays very well.
One of the better deck building games around, with a unique and gripping theme that compares well with the intended mechanics. A must have for any fan of the deck building genre.
There's something to be said for a deck builder having only a small set of cards. In Dominion you never play the same game twice which creates games that are more about finding cool card combos than interacting with your opponents.
In Arctic Scavengers players can quickly move past the "how do these cards work together" phase. The trick to doing well then comes down to making sure you use your cards better than your opponents do. Now we are talking player interaction not card analysis. On top of this add a skirmish round where you blind bid for even more powerful cards.
The Junk Pile and Skirmish decks add a sense of adventure and exploration that works well with the subject matter making for a rather interesting and even harrowing thematic experience. Don't get too attached to every little refugee. Sometimes you have to turn them out in the middle of winter for the greater good of the tribe. Alternately you can use the included expansion which allows you to eat those who don't pull their weight or even harvest their organs. That's better then just letting them freeze to death, right?
Too long Clanky, Too Looong!
This game is a thematic deck builder with some cool mechanics and bluffing. The fight over the loot can get pretty cumbersome with all the tools and snipers, but it's still pretty fun.
