Woah. It's not like the base game was lacking staying power; it takes time to get to grips with everything and the tuneable difficulty means it'll take even a persistent group time to master. This expansion adds a huge amount of meat to the game. In fact, it more than doubles the content! Additional white & yellow threats were a great surprise, red threats bump the number of distinct threat deck difficulty levels from 3 to 6, double action cards and harder missions to use them on, specialisations, a campaign mode that gives more weight to play sessions and lets you tell a story...
Disclaimer: I'm not that big on expansions. Too often I see expansions used as a band-aid for games lacking variety or depth, or worse, ones that are essential for the game to be any good. So often I find I'm done with a game before trying any expansions it might have. However, this is my kind of expansion; one that really progresses from the base game rather than replaces it, one only for those who have played and enjoyed the base game to the point where they're looking for fresh challenges.
If you're lucky enough to have a group that enjoyed the base game enough to work up to yellow threats and have a decent chance against them, I'd say this is essential. Or if you're a nutter like me who enjoyed the solo experience enough to take the risk. It's amazing value (typical for CGE) and if you ditch the crappy base game box insert, it's a doddle to fit it all in there.
Space Alert 2.0 With this expansion the (main)game will be legendary. 10 points.
Great expansion!
Love the campaign rules and specialties! Haven't even played the hard missions yet but it's worth it for the campaign sheets alone.

Adds more variety. Makes the base game even harder.
