Típico juego que no mejora la diversión de jugar a su original. Una pena, porque podía ser muy divertido, pero el comercio hacía que fuesen dos partidas simultáneas en vez de una gran partida.

From my reply to someone asking advice on whether or not to play at BGG.Con 2012:

It was an experience.

I'm not planning on doing it again (though it has been requested by some of the participants), but I'm glad I played it.

(Less glad about the dozens of hours spent making the required stuff (thankfully one of the players had access to professional equipment and printed the map for us for free).)

The downtime is larger with more players, though the usual time-management tricks help a lot. (Moving simultaneously when possible, limiting trade time, running the two halves of the board as separately and simultaneously as possible, having one or two people with the responsibility to drive the game forward, dividing up maintenance tasks, etc.)

Our game was...like 10-11 players I think, and it took a couple of hours longer than our usual 6-7 player games.

Also, be aware that the variance in trade card hands can be brutal; there's a picture from my game in the images section--at one point, one person got a draw of (IIRC) a 1, a 2, and six calamities (4 non-tradeable). That took him out of the game. Found it: [ImageID=102062]

I'd consider avoiding the BGG game, unless everyone is an experienced AdvCiv player. And has read the rules for the Expansion Project beforehand. I'd also try to keep the game in the 12-14 player range.

But if you like AdvCiv, I'd urge you to play it at some point, even if you don't get to play it at the con.

This is essentially a would-be Mega Civilization or Western/Eastern Empires. The Dutch language on some of the prototype cards suggests overlap in the development/developers of MegaCiv?

The idea of expanding the civilization game (the real one, not the crappy Sid Meier's) to the entire old world (Asia, Africa, Europa) is excellent... the problem is to find a room that you can condemn for a month of gaming and the many players to join and keep playing. hehe!

The sheer magnitude of the game makes the original Civ/ACiv more of a go to when played live, but this is great on civ.rol-play. I like the scoring of this original one better compared to Mega Civilization, but then again Mega Civ can be finished in one day when playing live even with a big crowd.

Awesome variant of one of the greatest games ever. Takes a long time to finish, but every minute is a joy!
